Seasonal Delights at the Melbourne Fashion Festival
Amidst preparations for the upcoming Melbourne Fashion Festival this month, and in addition to the Independent Runway and Patternation exhibition, it is a pleasure to have been invited to participate in Seasonal Delights: Consumption of Trends and Worlds Around Us - a project that plays with relations between food, fashion, art and events.
"This collaborative project explores the meta world we live in and how seasonal trends and unlikely sources of inspiration can both influence and inspire each other." - The Bowler Associates
The Bowler Associates have come together from different creative fields, with key players including Sarah Willcocks (Editor at StyleMelbourne.com), Ryan Foote (installation and event based artist) and Stu Morley (Photographer) creating an exhibition beginning with Sarah Willcocks curating 6 local & international fashion designers, asking them to commit one of their signature garments from the current season. The garments are then shown to Ryan Foote, who will design 6 food dishes that are inspired by the garments. And after this, the dishes are shown to a fashion stylist who then comes up with 6 styling directions inspired by the food and works with Stu Morley to photograph the resulting combination. All of this culminates into the Seasonal Delights event and exhibition.
As one of the 6 invited fashion designers, we will be showing one of our embellished pieces, "Frostwork" from our forthcoming Autumn/ Winter '14 collection, Underland. Below is a closer view of the bead work which will be translated into a delicious culinary creation by Ryan Foote, then photographed in editorial fashion by Stu Morley. A black door with an ornate deer antler handle welcomes you into an aesthetic space with dim lighting, textured wallpaper and dark curiosities – old fashioned telephones, plump leather chairs and ornate display cases of which house fine jewellery and an array of accessories from the likes of Pamela Love, Maripossa and Vera Zane.
The secrecy of the room and intimate atmosphere create a rare shopping experience. The predominantly black-on-white male and female apparel follows a monochromatic theme from Australian and international labels including Obscur, Silent by Damir Doma and one of our favourite accessory labels, Fleet Ilya.
